A Static Caravan is a holiday, residential or temporary home manufactured with PVC, fibreglass or coated stainless steel panels and attached to a chassis for ease of transportation to a permanent or temporary site.
What is a Static Caravan used for?
So, what is a static caravan used for? They are used by owners for their private use and also rented out during times when owners are not using them. Most are located on a holiday park or static caravan park. Renting a Static Caravan through private owners are sometimes cheaper than those booked through agents since there is no commission added. However, take care when booking with a private owner on social media pages. Occasionally you’ll find the holiday homes advertised don’t exist! Dedicated caravan rental portals tend to be safer.
Static caravans can also be found on residential caravan sites. There is no difference between these, and those on holiday parks. Modern Static Caravans can be lived in permanently provided that site has a residential licence. The quality of new mobile homes is excellent and they include fully fitted kitchens equipped with domestic appliances; bathrooms of the same type you would find in a traditional brick house, double glazing and central heating. You can choose as little or as much luxury as you require depending on your budget.
On building sites, where 24-hour security is required, static caravan accommodation is more comfortable than a portacabin. The facilities are far superior. They can also be transported to another site when the project is completed.
What are Static Caravans also known as?
This might seem a silly question but static caravans are advertised for sale sometimes as:
- Mobile homes
- Trailers
- House trailers
- Trailer homes
- Caravans
- Static caravans
- Holiday Homes
When advertised as simply caravans, make sure it is a static caravan rather than a touring model which you often see being towed by cars. And if it’s a trailer for sale there are many different types of trailers so again check that it’s a Static caravan. The most common use of the term “trailer home” is in the USA.
Touring vs Static Caravans
With the cost of holidays abroad still very expensive, despite reductions in fuel prices and continuing austerity, it’s not surprising that people look for cheaper holidays. Let us have a look at the difference between Touring and Static Caravans.
Leading the cheaper holiday stampede are many who believe touring caravanning is the answer.
Depreciation
A good touring caravan can be purchased new for around 14,000 pounds and in three years will still be worth £9,000. To tow the van safely will require a vehicle with a little additional power and more than adequate for this is a low-end Range Rover which new costs £35,000 and in three years will still be worth 20,000 pounds.
With the initial expense out of the way, you are now able to enjoy your annual holidays without having to spend hundreds of pounds.
Actually, that´s not quite right – the losses on both the van and the Range Rover over three years come to £25,000, on top of which there has been the cost of fuel and wear and tear on both the caravan and the vehicle that tows it.
Buying a Static Caravan
Now here´s another idea you might find preferable to buying a touring caravan. How about not buying one at all, instead hire a luxury static caravan home for your holiday in the UK. Most are situated in idyllic surroundings with more than enough facilities to keep both adults and children entertained. You simply drive to the holiday park at your leisure, unwind and at the end of your holiday drive home. No heavy caravan to pull and no loaded insurance to pay for.
Of course, there are other alternatives; for example, instead of buying a caravan on wheels, how about buying a static caravan pitched permanently on a holiday park. All utilities are available and there’s no need to suffer the burden of towing at a maximum speed of 50 MPH.
But there´s more – consider letting your new holiday home. As well as getting your own holidays free, you can use the income generated to repay the cost of purchase and then go on to make a regular income. . .
Where can you buy a Static Caravan?
You can buy through private advertisements, direct from holiday parks and via caravan dealers like North Wales Caravans. Purchasing through dealers or holiday parks gives you a better guarantee than buying from private owners. Naturally, if you buy from a park you will be on site so if anything goes wrong the park operators will be available to help. Normally, if you use caravan dealers, they will be close to the park on which your holiday home is sited. Invariably reputable dealers will help with any problems.
